5 Favorite Places to Take Photos

Taking photos to keep a consistent aesthetic has to do with a numerous amount of components… LOCATION is one of them. I personally love wearing vibrant and colorful outfits (even though I wear a lot of white and black). Because I like bringing the color to my photos through my clothing, having a background that is no too distracting is the key. As you all have noticed in my photos and previous posts talking about editing photos, I like my brand to be noticed for being white and crisp.

The beauty about living in the Midwest is that your scenic background can change drastically but just driving an hour away. Growing up from the suburbs of Chicago and going to college downtown, it can go from open fields and forest preserves to sky scrapers and busy streets. To think that I am only referring to Illinois, I have shot with one of my best friends in Indianapolis, IN (pre-covid) and there are some fun gems to stumble upon in the Midwest alone.

FAVORITE PLACES TO TAKE PHOTOS:

PARKING GARAGES: I saw this become more popular this year, especially on TikTok. Finding a parking garage and going on an empty floor can be a vibe. You can use the whole lot, the walls, the top floor, etc. I like going to garages with open windows to provide natural light. If you have a more dark + black aesthetic, these shots would be super cool in the evening with a bright flash.

OPEN FIELDS: Coming from the Midwest gal, you can catch some super scenic shots during sunset hours. If you get lucky, depending on the time of year, you can visit sunflower and/or lavender fields. I have taken full advantage of open field shots and picnics during our quarantine summer.

WHITE BRICK WALLS: My personal favorite and sometimes the hardest backgrounds to find. It takes a lot of driving around to scout a location and to use different buildings so your feed doesn’t all look the same.

ROOFTOPS: This one might be easier for those who have friends and family that live in high-rise buildings. BUT if you are ever visiting the city, Chicago has plenty of rooftop bars + restaurants. A perfect way to try out a new place to grab food/drinks AND snap the perfect photo opp in a new outfit. ✨

BEHIND WAREHOUSES: Sounds weird, I know. BUT some of my favorite shots have the ‘rough’ and ‘unfinished’ look in the background. My favorite place to shoot behind a ‘warehouse’ is actually Target! Its super white and airy and that cute outfit you’re trying to showoff will steal the spotlight of this location.
