Best French Fries in Chicago

POTATO CONNOISEURS

This is the best idea that one of my best friends, Christian Blakley & I have ever made. He shares the same love for potatoes as I do, so we decided to go on a 2018 French Fry Tour (broken up in different days of course), to share with you guys the best fries - rated from our favorite to least favorite. These restaurants and fast food chains are places we have been wanting to go to, have already eaten at in the past or have been recommended to us by friends & family. Thank you to our friends that accompanied us and helped us finish our fry servings. 😉 ENJOY.

EPIC BURGER

Location: 517 S State St, Chicago, IL 60605
Our very first stop on the fry tour! This place had the crispy and crunchy fries with just enough salt.

HAMPTON SOCIAL

Location: 353 W Hubbard St, Chicago, IL 60654
The cutest place to grab drinks with your favorite gal pal and catch up! These fries were smaller but served with some garlic and delicious sauces that were served on the side.

SHAKE SHACK

Location: 66 E Ohio St, Chicago, IL 60611
Shake Shack was first originated in New York. Great crinkle cut fries for a fast food chain!

DEVIL DAWGS

Location: 2147 N Sheffield Ave, Chicago, IL 60614
Ah yes, the infamous Devil Dawgs. We actually have one of these on Columbia’s campus on South State Street. Open until 3 AM on the weekends, Christian and I would definitely say that this is THE BEST drunk food to fulfill those late night cravings. 10/10 would recommend the bucket-o-cheese fries.

DMK BURGER

Location: 2954 N Sheffield Ave, Chicago, IL 60657
For a sit down restaurant, we were a little disappointed that these fries tasted exactly Devil Dawgs.

SMALL CHEVAL

Location: 1732 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
Our very first stop on the fry tour! This place is known for selling only burgers, shakes, and fries. Some of the best food to start off and fill our tummies! One of the crispiest fries with the cutest outdoor patio to sit outside and and enjoy the evening with your friends and family.

FIVE GUYS

Location: 2140 N Clybourn Ave, Chicago, IL 60614
This fast food chain is also known for their burgers, shakes, and fries. We had ordered their cajun fries! Great place to soak up your stomach after a night out at the bars.

THE BRISTOL

Location: 2152 N Damen Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
An adorable rustic and sit down restaurant! Sit and grab a tasty drink and delicious sharable meals with a group. They are known for their duck fat battered fries with a side of garlic aioli!

CAFE ROBEY

Location: 1616 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
Cafe at The Robey hotel offering American fare for brunch & dinner, plus a cocktail lounge upstairs. The crispiest fries with a side of ketchup and garlic aioli. To top off the night, they end your meal with a shot of milk and mini cookies!

UMAMI BURGER

Location: 1480 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60622
Lively chain outpost serving elevated burgers & sides plus creative cocktails in a sleek space. All different kinds of fries and sauces that can be ordered with your meal. As you can tell with these last set of pictures, we were slowly developing our food comas. We ordered the thin fries, and they were surprisingly delicious and SO crispy with the side of jalapeño ranch!

LUXBAR

Location: 18 E Bellevue Pl, Chicago, IL 60611
Beautiful dine in restaurant in the heart of Gold Coast — known for their truffle fries! Our waitress gave us an order of a basket of truffle fries and side of a regular fry. Very crispy fries but the garlic aioli on the side could have been better.

M BURGER

Location: 161 E Huron St, Chicago, IL 60611
Fast food chain — known for their burgers fries and shales! We had ordered a regular fry and their cheese fries. The cheese fries are very light and not too heavy! Easy to pour, best fast food fries around.

DOC B’s

Location: 100 E Walton St, Chicago, IL 60611
Fries come in a smaller serving but the seasoning on the fries makes up for it. Slightly thinner than a steak fry but with the same smush factor, these fries could make a great addition to your entrée.

PORTILLO’S

Location: 100 W Ontario St, Chicago, IL 60654
Fast food chain, home of America’s favorite Chicago-style hot dogs! These delicious crinkle cut fries can be paired best with a side of cheese. Fun atmosphere for the family.

POINT AND FEATHER

Location: 113 W Hubbard St, Chicago, IL 60654
Impromptu restaurant bar that we had stumbled upon because the Public House was very packed BUT this ended up being one of our top favorites. A fun atmosphere and you can grab a drink and play darts. Crunchy fries came with an assortment of condiments — jalapeño, ranch, and ketchup!
